Regional Finals 2009

Petronas Malaysia has launched ‘The Formula One Technology Challenge’ to provide students the opportunity to keep abreast of current development in technology.

This programme has been a significant part of the student experience in Malaysia. It inspired at giving students-even in remote areas – access to F1 technology, an accelerated path to latest technology advancement and a broader world view through creative design. It has taken even greater strides into helping put the fun back into learning.

To rise to this challenge the school has put together two teams ; Lightning Blaze and Hyper Infinity to represent the school at the regional level competition. The teams then report a greater excitement for representing the East Coast region to the nationals. Having to analyse the car design using Computer Aided Design (CAD) or Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM), the team needs to raise funds to compensate for their operating expenses.

To help students on this competition, the school, teachers, local community of Bukit Goh, Bukit Sagu and Bukit Kuantan , individuals and private companies contributed generously. Through these sponsors the teams are given the opportunity to push the limits of their creativity to engage in a more satisfying performance.

Sow a thought, reap an action; sow an action; reap a habit; sow a habit; reap a character; sow a character reap a DESTINY, states a Chinese proverb. The DESTINY that will be sown through this competition is the destiny of Malaysian students, a world class students. We thank you – sponsors, principal, teachers, parents and friends- for being part of this great endeavour.

About the team!

The placement for the f1 team was open on January . After a few years of negligience on this new forefront, the form 4's this year thought that the F1 IN SCHOOL's was an untapped area that the school should focus on. At last, the programme was agreed to open up and develop new range of talents as well as representing the school name with a new and stronger team than before.

The F1 IN SCHOOL CLUB of SMK BUKIT GOH once held the audition that was opens to all form 4s and form 2s. After some selections done, the team was officially formed in mid February. From there, the long journey for Lightning Blaze started off.

The Lightning Blaze team consists of a teacher advisor and form 4s students.Officially founded in February, the students are picked on several basis but ultimately because of their ability to execute their given tasks perfectly.

Research,design,analyse,make,test&race!

Research,Design Analyse, Make, Test & Race

RESEARCH - Students conduct background research on theories and information to help them design their F1 car of the future.

DESIGN - Students design a car model using 3D CAD SolidEdge software from USA. F1 Team in Schools Malaysia recommends SolidEdge CAD Software, an academic license of this industrial engineering design software product is provided to schools register here for MOE approval.

ANALYSE - Students can analyse the properties of their model before manufacture. The Virtual Wind Tunnel software processes the aerodynamics of the car straight from the CAD file.

MAKE - The car design is converted into CNC code using CAM software. F1 Team International in Schools recommends EdgeCAM F1, The car is then manufactured using a Denford CNC Microrouter.

TEST - The manufactured car will be put into a mini wind-tunnel for physical aerodynamic test.

RACE - The student teams race their finished car to battle out on who has the fastest and most attractive car.

What is the F1 IN SCHOOLS?

Whats the challenge all about?

The Formula One Technology Challenge in Malaysia is a competition, open to all Form 4 students to design and manufacture CO2 powered model racing cars. Student teams will compete against each other in national and international championships to determine the best engineered and fastest car, in individual countries and ultimately, to compete for the Best Engineered and Fastest Car in the World! Each country running the the Formula One Technology Challenge has a designated in country co-ordinator who are responsible for providing information, organising team entries and regional finals. The National Champion will be sent to compete to the International Championship representing Malaysia.

Why was the challenge introduced?
Engineering is a vital part of the modern world today and with CAD/CAM, CNC and Virtual Reality Systems being common place in the manufacturing industry, it is important that designers and engineers of the future are familiar with this technology.
In the long term it is hoped to address the shortage of engineers.
Primarily, the International Formula One Technology Challenge provides students with an ideal opportunity to experience the very latest developments in manufacturing technology.
